PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for enabling detection of a difference of the natural features of the landscape between those in map data and those in the real world in a short time. SOLUTION: This map data verification system includes a position detecting means which detects the position of a driver's own vehicle (100), the map data wherein the data on a road and the natural features of the landscape (301, 302 and 303) are stored, a distance measuring means such as a laser scanner or a stereo camera which measures a distance (101) to the natural feature of the landscape existing by the side of the road, an error part detecting means and a transmission means. The error part detecting means finds an estimate of the distance measured by the distance measuring means, from the driver's own vehicle and the map data, and determines a part showing difference from the actual measured distance, as an error part.
