PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing an OCB (optically compensated birefringence) mode liquid crystal device in which smooth initial transition is carried out, and to provide a liquid crystal device and an electronic apparatus with the liquid crystal device. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a liquid crystal device includes initial transition of an alignment state of a liquid crystal from splay alignment to bend alignment. The method includes steps of: preparing an element substrate 10 having a rugged pattern in a display region as at least one of substrates; forming a porous film (alignment layer 18) made of an inorganic material to cover at least the display region; and subjecting the porous film to a first alignment treatment by irradiating the film with an ion beam (IB) in a first direction (normal direction), followed by a second alignment treatment by irradiating the film with an ion beam (IB) in a second direction (a direction at an incident angle of 45 degrees) different from the first direction. The second alignment treatment defines the splay alignment. The rugged pattern is formed by, for example, contact holes 15a provided in pixel electrodes 15. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
