PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably record/reproduce information without being affected by a prepit area, in an optical disk having recording layers of two or more layers.SOLUTION: The optical disk 1 includes a first recording layer 15 and a second recording layer 13. An outer peripheral prepit area 6b is prepared as the prepit area on an outer peripheral side of a recordable area 3b on the second recording layer 13. On this outer peripheral prepit area 6b, predetermined information is recorded beforehand by the pit. The prepit information is reproduced in such a manner that a light beam 17 is transmitted through the recordable area 3a of the first recording layer 15 of which the light transmittance is increased by the completion of recording operation, and converged to the outer peripheral prepit area 6b. The recording or reproducing operation of the second recording layer 13 can be performed without being affected by the prepit area, since the outer peripheral area 6b is prepared on the second recording layer 13. |
