PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost downsized contact combustion type gas sensor capable of preventing deterioration of sensitivity due to catalyst poisoning. SOLUTION: The contact combustion type gas sensor 10 comprises a detection resistor 11 whose resistance varies according to the combustion heat of a detected gas burnt by heat generated by supplied power; a catalyst layer 13 provided to transfer heat to and from the detection resistor 11 and including a catalyst active to the detected gas; and a sacrifice layer 14 provided to cover the surface of the catalyst layer 13, letting the detected gas to permeate, and being inactive to the detected gas.
