<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic catheter which is enough thin and flexible, while being composed to extend the useful life of the ultrasonic transmission wire. <P>SOLUTION: Ultrasonic catheter devices 10 and methods generally provide for ablation and/or disruption of vascular occlusions. An ultrasonic transmission member 24, (such as a wire), transmits vibrational energy from an ultrasonic transducer to a distal head 26 of the catheter to disrupt the vascular occlusions. At least one absorber member is disposed on or around the ultrasonic transmission wire at a location adjacent the sonic connector 52 of the catheter. The absorber member absorbs heat, vibrations, and/or the like from the ultrasonic transmission wire at or near the area where the transmission wire is coupled with the sonic connector. The absorptive function typically slows the process of abrasion and tear on the transmission wire, thus extending the useful life of the ultrasonic catheter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
