<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing an alcohol compound obtained by reducing a carboxylic ester compound into the alcohol compound without using a boron hydride compound. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the alcohol compound includes the following process: a first step of conducting a reaction among an imidazolium salt (A), a ruthenium compound (B) and a base (C) to obtain a ruthenium complex; and a second step of reducing a carboxylic ester compound with hydrogen in the presence of the ruthenium complex obtained in the first step. In this method, the imidazolium salt (A), preferably, has in the molecule an amino group and an imidazole ring and contains a partial structure with the amino group and the imidazole group bound to each other via a linkage group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
