PURPOSE: A system and a method for preventing illegal use of an engine control unit are provided so that if the accumulated mileage of an engine control unit does not match with that of a cluster, an assurance repair service is invalidated. CONSTITUTION: A system for preventing illegal use of an engine control unit comprises a first accumulated mileage information collecting unit(13), a second accumulated mileage information collecting unit(11), a comparing unit(15), a determining unit(17) and a display(19). The first accumulated mileage information collecting unit collects the accumulated mileage information from the engine control unit. The second accumulated mileage information collecting unit collects the accumulated mileage information from a cluster. The comparing unit compares the accumulated mileage information of the engine control unit of the first accumulated information collecting unit with the accumulated mileage information of the cluster of the second accumulated information collecting unit. The determining unit determines based on the comparison result whether the engine control unit has been illegally used. The display represents the determination result of the determining unit.
