PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently drying and volume-reducing various plants such as field crops especially phytoremediation plants used in removing heavy metals such as cadmium in the contaminated soil. SOLUTION: There is provided the compression method for plants, comprising following (I) to (IV): (I) a step of harvesting plants raised in a planting ground, (II) a step of molding the harvested plants in the step (I) to be a bale with a bale molding device, (III) a step of holding and drying the bale obtained in the step (II), and (IV) a step of compressing the bale dried in the step (III) with a compression molder, to have a compression rate of 70% or less, calculated by the formula: the compression rate=(Vx/V0)×100 (wherein V0 is the volume of the bale before compression and Vx is the volume of the bale 10 min after from releasing a compression load after the compression).
