PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle circumference image display system which can solve, by an inexpensive method, uncomfortable feeling (obstacle or the like seems to be lying on a road surface) on a display of a prior art looking down synthetic image. SOLUTION: A vehicle circumference image display system includes: a camera photographing a vehicle and its surroundings; an obstacle detection means for detecting an obstacle outside the vehicle; a memory portion for previously storing alternative images corresponding to the obstacle; and an image processor for creating a looking down image from a virtual viewpoint outside the vehicle based on the image obtained by the camera. When the obstacle detection means detects the obstacle, the image processor identifies the obstacle, selects an alternative image corresponding to the identified obstacle, reads the alternative image from the memory portion, changes a direction and inclination of the selected alternative image in line with the virtual viewpoint, and then overlaps the changed alternative image on the looking down image.
