PURPOSE: A multilane vehicle detecting method is provided to cost-effectively install an apparatus for detecting multilane vehicles by controlling an image sensor in order to collect traffic information without a vehicle detector. CONSTITUTION: An image of a multilane road is sub-sampled as a sub-sample image(S501). Vehicles are detected and tracked based on the sub-sample image(S503). The location of a license plate number on a vehicle is estimated based on the sub-sample image(S507). Based on the estimation result, an image related to a target region, in which the vehicle is capable of being located, is extracted(S513). The license plate number of the vehicle is recognized from the image related to the target region(S515). |
