PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion picture overlap detection method and system for detecting an overlap of motion pictures. SOLUTION: The motion picture overlap detection method includes detecting an overlap of motion pictures by analyzing contents of motion pictures themselves. Namely, at least one key frame is detected for each motion picture, an area-by-area luminance value of the detected at least one key frame is used to calculate a feature value of the at least one key frame, the calculated feature value of the at least one key frame is used to calculate overall feature values for each motion picture, and the calculated overall feature values are compared to determine whether or not the motion pictures are overlapped as a whole.
