SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MANAGING THE BRAKES OF AN AUTOMOBILE

The brake management system is provided with a parking brake assisted by one or more brake actuators engageable with at least one vehicle wheel. A system includes a vehicle stop detection module (1), a module (2) for detecting a driver-requested engine stop, and a module (3) for predetermining conditions enabling the change of brake pads receiving signals coming from the preceding modules and capable of emitting a signal enabling the change of brake pads during a timing period. A module (4) for controlling the release of the brake actuators receives the enabling signal and is capable of sending out a brake caliper release order in response to a manual release command by the driver and in response to a predetermined position of the accelerator pedal of the vehicle.
