PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify the center of a recording medium without loading it on the printer tray. SOLUTION: The label printer includes a carriage 13 to print on the label surface of a recording medium by moving back and forth in the main scanning direction, a printer tray 33 freely movable in the sub-scanning direction with the recording medium mounted thereon and having center marks 38, 39 showing the center of the recording medium, a sensor 27 provided on the carriage to find the center marks, and a tray position controller to specify the center based on the position of the center marks found by the sensor.
