The earth protection device comprises an input to receive a first signal (IG1) representative of an earth fault current, first signal processing means (5), and means (6) for processing protection functions connected to the first signal processing means. The device comprises second signal processing means (12) to process the first signal (IG1) connected between said input and the first signal processing means (5), said second signal processing means supplying to the first signal processing means a second signal (IG2) representative of an earth fault current having on decrease a gradient lower than a preset gradient limiting value (L). The device can be integrated in electronic trip devices or circuit breakers.
