Disclosed is a compound useful as a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for diseases associated with the abnormality of serum uric acid levels and other diseases. Specifically disclosed are: an indolizine derivative represented by formula (I) or a prodrug or a salt thereof, which has an inhibitory activity on xanthine oxidase and is useful as a prophylactic or therapeutic agent for diseases associated with the abnormality of serum uric acid levels; and others. In the formula, ring U represents an aryl group, or a heteroaryl group; R1 represents a halogen atom, a hydroxy group, or the like; R2 represents a halogen atom, a hydroxy group, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkyl group substituted by a fluorine atom, an alkoxy group substituted by a fluorine atom, or the like; m represents 0 to 2; n represents 0 to 3; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, or the like.
