The method involves detecting a measured variable by an electrical component. A characteristic value is determined based on an integral value of the measured variable and compared with a characteristic threshold value to evaluate a load of the electrical component, where the measured variable is an absolute value of the electric current, a square value of the electric current, torque, voltage or a voltage variation. The measured variable or the characteristic value is reduced by subtracting a value of a temporary load of the electrical component. An independent claim is also included for a programming device i.e. controller, for implementing a method for evaluating a load of an electrical component of a vehicle.
