<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an external storage device which enables a person to know a state of connection while not being hidden by a window or displayed information which is displayed in a main screen area, and is excellent in operability. <P>SOLUTION: The external storage device is connected to a host device to make the reading-out or storage of data controlled by an operation from the host device which includes a display device having a main screen area, in which a window opened by the start-up of application software is displayed, and a specific area segmented from the main screen area.
