<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device with excellent pressurization load resistance even if the thinning of the liquid crystal display device is considerably achieved. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate; a liquid crystal layer; and a second substrate in this order, wherein the first substrate has an insulating film on a principal plane on the liquid crystal layer side, the second substrate has first and second columnar spacers which project to the liquid crystal layer side and have the same height, the insulating film has a plurality of protrusions in a region facing one of the second columnar spacers, the first columnar spacers contact the insulating film, and the area in which one of the second columnar spacers contacts the protrusions is smaller than the area of the region in load pressurization to the first substrate and/or the second substrate.
