A hinge assembly is provided for connecting a toilet seat and cover to a rearward extension beind a toilet bowl. A base member (20) is permanently affixed to the extension. A hinge support member (14) is rotatably linked to the base member in bayonet connection fashion. The hinge support member, seat and cover can be removed from the toilet bowl, leaving only the base member attached to the extension.
