PURPOSE: A method for adaptive image resizing is provided to remove the image having low importance degree while maintaining the important information within an original image by adjusting the amount of a down sample ring after splitting an original image into images having different sizes. CONSTITUTION: The amounts of reference axis to be reduced and the length to be reduced are adjusted(S310), and an original image is uniformly divided into n pieces according to the reference axis(S320). The complexity of each piece is calculated(S330), and the boundary of the pieces is reset up to increase the complexity of the adjacent pieces(S340). According to the average value of the complexities, the amount of the down-sampling is setup. After performing the down-sampling, a down-sampled target image is outputted(S350,S360).
