The method involves detecting the light characteristics of light on a surface. The surface is arranged relative to a lamp, such that the surface is directly or indirectly illuminated by the lamp. The chromaticity coordinates of the light emitted from the lamp is controlled according to the light characteristics detected on the surface. An independent claim is also included for a regulating system for regulating the chromaticity coordinates of light emitted by a lamp.
