<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a PDP achieving high image quality, high luminance, and wide color reproduction range. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A pair of substrates 101, 102 is provided, having transparent front surfaces is facingly disposed to each other to define a discharge space 122 between the substrates, partition walls 109 for partitioning the discharge space 122 into a plurality of sections are disposed at least on one of the substrates, a group of electrodes 103, 104, 107 is disposed on the substrate to generate discharge in the discharge space 122 so partitioned by the partition walls 109 and a phosphor layer for emitting light by discharge. The phosphor layer includes a green phosphor layer constituted of Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn, the ratio of the sum of the element Zn and the element Mn to the element Mn is 0.05-0.08 and the ratio of the element Si to the sum of the element Zn and the element Mn is 1.97-2.02 at a position located below the 10-nm-depth measured from the particle surface of Zn<SB>2</SB>SiO<SB>4</SB>:Mn.
