The present invention relates to an elastic and disposable cover for wrapping a hand-held surgical instrument prior to a sterilization process, which can be wrapped over surgical instruments such as retractors to reduce slipping of the retractor in the body cavity and reduce trauma to tissue. The invention can in particular be wrapped over the entire surface of the surgical instrument. The present cover comprises a substantially tubular elastic sheath provided with an aperture for the insertion of said surgical instrument which sheath is suitably dimensioned for essentially entirely wrapping said surgical instrument, and a cover element which is attached to one end of said tubular sheath and capable of covering said aperture of said tubular sheath. The invention further relates to a method for fabricating said cover. |
