A three-dimensional picture viewing system is provided with a display system (2) for time-division multiplexing and displaying three or more pictures including two or more pictures with different parallaxes and at least one subtitle picture, and outputting a control signal indicating the switching timing of each of the pictures, an input means (7) for specifying any of a plurality of different display modes in which display pictures which are objects to be viewed are determined from among the three or more pictures, two shutters for switching between a state in which light is transmitted and a state in which light is blocked, and a shutter drive circuit for identifying the switching timing of each of the display pictures corresponding to the display mode specified by the input means (7) on the basis of the control signal, and independently controlling the opening/closing of each of the two shutters at the switching timing of each of the pictures identified.
