PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-disc wet type brake equipped with a slave cylinder having an improved response time. SOLUTION: An outer piston chamber 22 of a two-step slave cylinder 10 is demarcated by a hole part 14 and an outer piston 20, and is coupled with a hydraulic fluid source through a fluid passage 24. A bias mechanism works to apply a bias to the outer piston in a non-operating condition so long as the outer piston is free of application of any larger force than the bias force. In the outer piston, an inner piston 42 is set slidably in a hole part 26. An inner piston chamber 58 is demarcated by a hole part and the inner piston, and an aperture 34 is formed in the outer piston in order to couple the outer piston chamber with the inner piston chamber.
