794,682. Portable containers; making cartons. JAGENBERG-WERKE AKT.-GES. April 26, 1956 [May 21, 1955], No. 12827/56. Classes 18 and 66. A conical paper or cardboard container 1, Fig. 2, is formed with a reduced portion 5 near its smaller end to define an internal shoulder 6 and the bottom is closed by an end closure 4 having a flanged edge 3 extending for substantially the whole length of said reduced portion 5 whereby on nesting such containers the bottom closure 4 of one will engage the shoulder 6 of another. The container 1 may also have a U-shaped fold at its base as shown in Fig. 1a. The container may be made by shaping a flat blank 1, Fig. 3, about a conical shaped mandrel 7 having at its upper end a reduced cylindrical extension 8. An annular member 9, Fig. 5, descends to shape the blank around the extension 8. An end blank 2 that is flat as shown in Fig. 6. or with turned down edges, is then placed on the end of the container 1 and a die 10 descends to press the blank 2 into the shape of a dished closure member, an annular member 11 moving downwardly at the same time to turn down the edges of the end closure as in Fig. 7. In a modified method, the use of the annular member 9 is avoided by using the annular member 11 not only to turn down the edges of the end closure as before but also to simultaneously shape the blank for the body 1 around the reduced, extension 8 of the mandrel. |
