NI-BASED CATHODE MATERIAL WITH IMPROVED SAFETY AND LITHIUM SECONDARY BATTERY CONTAINING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A nickel-based cathode active material and a secondary lithium battery including the same are provided to prevent swelling phenomenon when the material is introduced to the secondary lithium battery due to improved stability and to obtain high capacity without the degradation of battery performance. CONSTITUTION: A nickel-based cathode active material is comprised of lithium nickel-based oxide which is marked as a Li_x Ni_y M_(1-y)O_2. The lithium-nickel oxide has the nickel content more than 40%. A lithium-nickel-manganese oxide contacts with the surface of the lithium-nickel oxide. The lithium-nickel-manganese oxide is marked as Li [Li_a (Ni_1/2 Mn_1/2)_(1-a-b) Co_b] O_z.
