PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing unit which can prevent the developer from leaking to the outside by improving the sealability of an edge sealer. SOLUTION: The developing unit includes a developer container having an aperture formed facing the image carrier, a developer carrier 41 arranged at the aperture and free to turn, a contact 45 in contact with the revolving surface of the developer carrier 41, and the edge sealer 47 pressed on the developer carrier 41 and on the contact 45 to prevent the developer from leaking out through the respective edges of the developer carrier 41 and the contact 45. A cutout 48 is formed on the surface 47a of the edge sealer 47 which is pressed on the developer carrier 41 and on the contact 45 in a manner communicating with the inside but not with the outside.
