Provided are a facility and method for the treatment of gases which contain alkali metal halides with which the formation of foam is suppressed, the capacity to absorb hydrogen chloride gas is assured and continuous treatment is possible. The treatment facility has at least one absorbing column 10a and a neutralizing tank 30 and the treatment of the gas is carried out with water. The absorbing column 10a has a treatment space 5a in which the gas is treated, a circulated water supply means 6a which supplies some of the treatment liquid which is stored in a liquid storage reservoir 3a as circulated water, a first circulated water spraying means 7a which sprays the circulated water from the top of the treatment space 5a and a second circulated water spraying means 8a which sprays the circulated water from the bottom of the treatment space 5a, and a neutralizing tank 30 has a stirring means 31 for stirring the treatment liquid, a neutralizing agent supply part 32 for delivering neutralizing agent into the treatment liquid and a neutralization treatment means 33 for neutralizing the treatment liquid.
