<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect a visually handicapped person, and to easily and exactly support walking, in a guide system for detecting the visually handicapped person by an image sensor, to execute guide display. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This guide system includes a camera part 1 for photographing a pedestrian from an overhead side, a control part 2 for determining an advancing direction of the person, based on a detection result from the camera part 1, and a guide display part 3 arranged along a passage. The control part 2 recognizes a substantially circular image pattern determined as a head of the person, out of a detected image from the camera part 1, and determines further a direction extended with a rod-like pattern as the advancing direction of the visually handicapped person M1, when the rod-like pattern extended from the image pattern is recognized. The visually handicapped person M1 is thereby detected precisely including the advancing direction thereof, based on the image pattern, by this manner, and the visually handicapped person M1 is walking-supported easily and exactly, since the guide display part 3 is lit and controlled based on the detection result.
