<p>A method and network equipment for supporting variable speed are disclosed in the present invention. The method includes the following steps: a physical layer (PHY) chip receives first speed data of the physical layer and sends the received data to a media access control layer (MAC) chip at the first speed; and the MAC chip converts the first speed data from the PHY chip into the second speed data, and then processes them. According to the technical solution of the present invention, when the speed conversion is completed, it is not required to provide buffer storages in multiple PHY chips, so that the cost of network equipment of an Ethernet is reduced.</p> |
