PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera for shortening a waiting time, as compared with the prior arts, until a camera body is brought into a photographing enabled state from power-on of the camera body when a recording medium having a large recording capacity is loaded. SOLUTION: The digital camera includes a control circuit for executing the initialization process of the loaded recording medium and a series of photographing processes. When a camera body is powered on, the control circuit starts the initialization process of the recording medium and thereafter decides presence/no presence of an image recording operation regardless of whether or not the initialization process is finished. When it is decided that the image recording operation is performed, the control circuit starts the series of photographing processes and thereafter, at a point of time when an exposure process and any one of a plurality of signal processes are finished, the control circuit interrupts the series of photographing processes to decide whether or not the initialization process of the recording medium is finished.
