The cooking system has cooking devices (1, 2) e.g. steam cookers and steam oven, comprising cooking chambers (3, 4) for accommodation of food. A steam generating device (7) is formed for generating steam and supplying the steam to the cooking devices. Individual moisture ratio in the cooking chambers is adjusted depending on the generated steam. The cooking chambers exhibit different volumes. A steam recirculating device (9) recirculate the steam in the chambers. A heating device (5) heats the chambers and/or a hot air motor (6). The chambers are limited with walls of stainless steel. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a cooking system.
