<p>The engine has a cylinder head attached to a cylinder block, and a combustion chamber defined by a piston and a flame deck (11) at two respective sides. The piston is arranged inside the cylinder block in terms of lifting movement. An outlet channel is provided with an outlet valve and an inlet channel is provided with an inlet valve at the flame deck. A cylinder-head gasket (30) is arranged between the cylinder head and the cylinder block. The gasket has a protective region (31) that partially extends into the combustion chamber.</p>
