<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module in which generation of damage to a mounting component is reduced by attenuating a shockwave caused by collision of a ferrule and a fiber stab when an optical connector is inserted. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical module includes a sleeve 3 in which a package body 2 mounted with an optical element and a ferrule of an optical connector are inserted. The optical module is provided with a fiber stab that optically couples the optical element and the ferrule in the sleeve, with a cylindrical damping member 25 arranged in contact with the outer periphery of the sleeve 3. The cylindrical damping member 25 is cylindrically shaped and formed with a cylindrical inscribed circle in a free state having an diameter smaller than the outer diameter of the sleeve, wherein it is desirably formed with a corrugated metallic sheet rolled cylindrically.
