<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device which satisfactorily maintains image quality and separability of a recording medium. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fixing device comprises a pressing member 28 between a fixing roller 24 and a separation roller 25, pressing a fixing belt 26 from the inside thereof to the conveying path side of a recording medium S. The fixing device can be set in either a pressing state where the fixing belt 26 is pressed by the pressing member 28 or a non-pressing state where the fixing belt 26 is not pressed by the pressing member 28.
