<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which can reinforce irradiating light for irradiating an original document, and an image forming device with the image reading device, in the image reading device using an illumination unit with a light guiding object. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reading device 1 including an original document placing board 2, an original document press plate 3, an illumination unit 4, and a photoelectric conversion section 5 is constituted as follows. Namely, in the illumination unit 4, a light guide 4a of the illumination unit 4 is formed so that irradiation light may be irradiated to an original document width extended area which is the area outside width of the original document 9. The original document press plate 3 is formed so as to cover the extended area outside the width of the original document in addition to the original document 9. Irradiating light irradiated to the extended area outside the width of the original document is reflected by the original document press plate 3 and returned to the light guide 4a. As a result, a reflecting surface 3a for reflecting irradiating light is formed on the original document press plate 3 so as to reinforce the irradiating light, thus constituting the image reading device 1.
