A damping hinge system for use with a portable communications device is provided. The system can include a housing assembly adapted to be coupled to the portable communications device. The system can also include a cam surface formed within an interior of the housing assembly. The cam surface can include a first ramped portion opposite a second ramped portion. The system can include a shaft assembly that can extend through the housing assembly. The shaft assembly can support a damper, and can be positioned such that the damper engages the cam surface. Upon rotation of the shaft assembly, the damper can rotate, such that the damper can engage the first ramped portion and the second ramped portion to control the rotation of the housing assembly. |
