摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool having a coat for reducing crater wear in cutting under high-speed conditions and also exhibiting excellent wear resistance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coat formed on the base material. The coat comprises one layer, or two or more layers. At least one layer of the coat is a hard oxide coat layer containing at least Al and Zr, and has a composition structure where the contents of Al and Zr exhibit a change along the thickness direction of the coat layer. The change includes the Al maximum point where the content of Al shows the maximum and the Zr content maximum point where the content of Zr shows the maximum. The Al content maximum point and the Zr content maximum point are repetitively present wherein the content ratio of Al at the Al content maximum point Al/(Al+Zr) is 0.9999<Al≤1 in an atomic ratio and the content ratio of Zr at the Zr content maximum point Zr/(Al+Zr) is 0.001≤Zr/(Al+Zr)≤0.2 in the atomic ratio.
