PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Li-Ni system composite oxide having improved thermal stability and alkalinity.

SOLUTION: Li-Ni system composite oxide particle powder contains Mn and Co and/or Al. Co and Al are present within the particles, the concentration of Mn has a concentration gradient in the radial direction of the particle, and the concentration of Mn of the particle surface is higher than that of the center of the particle. The Li-Ni system composite oxide particle powder is obtained by mechanically applying an oxide and a hydroxide containing Mn and at least one of Ni and Co to a Li-Ni base oxide containing at least one of Co and Al and then heat treating at a temperature of 400-1,000°C.
