PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical detector which is more easily manufactured and detects light of a plurality of wavelengths. SOLUTION: Diffraction gratings 11a and 12a different in extending directions of grating grooves between aλ<SB>1</SB>detecting part 11 and aλ<SB>2</SB>detecting part 12 are formed on a surface of an optical coupling layer. One grating faces a [011] direction of GaAs constituting a substrate, and the other grating faces a [01-1] direction. A plurality of quantum dots are formed in an absorbing layer. Shapes of the quantum dots differ between a direction following the grating groove of the diffraction grating 11a and a direction following that of the diffraction grating 12a.
