<p>Perforated flat strip-like artificial leather is produced by coating an open or wide-meshed fibre structure, on one or both sides, with a thermoplastic material, embossed and in the same operation, embossed so deeply in spots that knob-like projections are formed and these projections are later cut off or ground off. The embossing may be carried out on an embossing roller which may comprise, in addition to the pattern to be reproduced, mandrels and/or stamps for producing the projections. The counter roller to the embossing roller is of rubber. One side of the fibre structure may be coated, the coating embossed, the knob-like projections removed and then the second side of the fibre structure coated. The open fibre-structure may be a net, screen, loose fleece, knitted fabric, or woven fabric having in warp and weft 2-12 threads per centimetre of thickness 20-3000 denier, e.g. 5 threads per centimetre of thickness 1000-2000 denier. The open fibre structure may comprise natural or synthetic fibres, e.g. regenerated cellulose, polyamides, polyesters such as polyethylene glycol terephthalate, polyacrylonitrile, polycarbonate or any homopolymer or copolymer commonly employed in the manufacture of fibres. Both sides of the open-fibre structure may be coated, but only one side is embossed. The perforations in the thermoplastic coating may have positions determined by the embossed pattern. The perforations may have round, oval, angular, star-shape or other geometric shapes. The artificial leather may be welded, in parts and preferably along the edges, to artificial leather and/or uncoated textile structures, preferably by means of high frequency welding. The example describes the perforation of net fabric of multifilament polyester threads having a polyvinyl chloride foil on the side and a polyvinyl chloride coating on the other.</p> |
