PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile apparatus with a simple circuit configuration that is connected to an external telephone and includes a data access apparatus in the form of a semiconductor device, the facsimile apparatus detecting the on-hook/off-hook state of the external telephone and ringing the external telephone after a public line is closed. SOLUTION: The facsimile apparatus includes: a power circuit for output of a calling signal and supplying voltage to the external telephone; a relay for switching between a first state in which the external telephone is connected to the power circuit and a second state in which the external telephone is connected to a public line; a detection unit for detecting a signal level of a signal line between the power circuit and the relay; and a control unit for issuing output instructions of the calling signal to the power circuit on the basis of the contents of a signal received by a data processing unit and detection results obtained by the detection unit when the relay is in the first state.
