摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waveguide which uses a silicon oxide film containing a silicon nanocrystal, and also an optical amplifying method using the silicon oxide film containing the silicon nanocrystal. SOLUTION: The optical amplifying method uses a silicon oxide (SiOx) containing a silicon nanocrystal. In the optical amplifying method, an SiOx (x is 2 or less) waveguide is formed which contains the silicon nanocrystal having a quantum efficiency exceeding 10%. A light input signal having a first power with a first wavelength of 700-950 nm is supplied to the SiOx waveguide containing the silicon nanocrystal. The SiOx waveguide containing the silicon nanocrystal is excited by a light source having a second power with a second wavelength of 250-550 nm. As a result, a light output signal having a third power larger than the first power is generated with the first wavelength.
