PURPOSE: An image forming apparatus and a motor control method thereof are provided to control rotation speed of an intermediate transfer belt during a waiting time for a following command, thereby shortening printing time. CONSTITUTION: A sensor(110) senses a home mark located on an intermediate transfer belt. A transfer unit driving unit(130) drives the intermediate transfer belt. A controller(120) controls driving speed of the transfer unit driving unit during fixed time according to a sensing result of the sensor after a series of processes due to the first printing command. The controller determines a current location of the home mark according to the sensing result of the sensor. When the second printing command is received, the controller changes driving speed of the transfer unit driving unit to sense the home mark within allowed time.
