<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guard body capable of suppressing an increase in a load due to a cornice. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The guard body is provided with posts 2, 3 ... 3, 2 erected with spaces, and guard faces 13 provided between these posts 2, 3 ... 3, 2. A cover body 21 having an inclined face 22A along which snow slides down is provided at the front and rear of an upper part. The snow slides down along the inclined face 22A of the cover body 21 to prevent the enlargement of the cornice to thereby reduce the load due to the cornice. Further, such a situation that the cornice is enlarged to fall on a road or the like can be prevented. An angle defined by the front and rear inclined faces 22A, 22A is preferably 34-40°, and a settling force applied to a guard fence by snow can be reduced. A rectangular steel member 23 is arranged between the upper parts of the adjacent posts 2, 3 ... 3, 2, and the cover body 21 is externally mounted to the rectangular steel member 23.
