In the manufacture of ornamental glass slabs by casting molten glass, a plurality of glass rods, which term includes thin ribbons or threads, are placed on the casting surface to become embedded in the cast glass. The rods and/or the glass slab may be coloured and the two glasses are either the same, only slightly different, as by the addition of a small amount of colouring oxide, or where they are different glasses, the two glasses have substantially similar coefficients of expansion. Preferably, to allow for the initially hotter glass, the rods are wider and thicker on the casting surface adjacent that part of the casting surface which just receives the molten glass. |
