<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact energy absorbing member superior in absorption performance and handling performance of a compressing load, by being stably deformed in the cylinder axis Z direction of a body part 2, without buckling-deforming the cylindrical body part 2. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A cross-sectional hollow member 4 is embedded in a metallic base material for constituting the body part 2 so as to be laminated in the cylinder axis Z direction by extending over its whole in the peripheral direction of the body part 2. The metallic base material is filled in a cross-sectional hollow part 4a of its cross-sectional hollow member 4, The cross-sectional hollow member 4 is crushed-deformed in the cylinder axis Z direction of the body part 2 when the compressive load of a predetermined value or more is inputted to the body part 2. The metallic base material positioned outside in the radial direction of the body part 2 is deformed outside in the radial direction of the body part 2 to the cross-sectional hollow member 4 in response to crushing-deformation, and the metallic base material positioned inside in the radial direction of the body part 2 is deformed inside in the radial direction of the body part 2 to the cross-sectional hollow member 4.
