There is provided an assay to determine the nitrotyrosine in a blood or serum sample of a patient. Patients having a nitrotyrosine level above a pre-determined threshold level of 12 or 50nM have been found to be more receptive to treatment. The assay is particularly useful for patients having multiple sclerosis, but can also be used for patients having rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, Alzheimer's disease, autism, fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. The assay can be an ELISA-based assay. |
