摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To integrate a functional optical element, which is less in optical transmission loss, on an Si substrate. <P>SOLUTION: The hybrid integrated optical circuit includes: silicon nanowire waveguides 12a, 12b; and a LiNbO<SB>3</SB>nanowire waveguide 14 which is provided at a position separated from the silicon nanowire waveguides by a distance in which an optical coupling is possible on the same line on which the silicon nanowire waveguides are mounted. The LiNbO<SB>3</SB>nanowire waveguide has a periodic polarization reversal structure 26, transforms the wavelength of basic light which is made incident from the silicon nanowire waveguide 12a and outputs the modulated light from the silicon nanowire waveguide 12b. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p>
